Should medical schools in non-medical universities be closed?
On May 6, Moscow State University will host a discussion with the participation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education on medical education in classical universities. It is inspired by the recent debate in the State Duma about the quality of medical education in non-medical universities.
But the problem is much broader. Opening, closing and reopening the medical faculty is not that difficult. And it is not the affiliation of a particular faculty to a university that determines the quality of education. And the presence of scientific schools, traditions, and the continuity of generations of research scientists.
Scientific schools are needed in any science. And don't tell me that humanitarian knowledge is not a science! The same pedagogy. You can build the country's educational system on a whim, or you can - on the basis of research on the best forms, methods, and tools of educational activity. And it's not just books to read. It means living a scientific problem, communicating in a circle of the same "concerned", discussing and searching for the truth.
In the absence of scientific schools, will higher education be at the proper level? Unlikely.
